About Me

“My primary goal is the long-term improvement of my patients’ quality of life.”
Dr. Ferenc István Misik is a neurosurgeon at the Spine Surgery Department of the National Institute of Clinical Neurosciences. Early in his neurosurgical training, he made a decision to dedicate his energy to treating patients suffering from spinal pain. Under the mentorship of Professor Dr. Péter Banczerowski, he mastered a wide range of minimally invasive spinal surgery techniques and had the opportunity to broaden his expertise at several world-renowned centres, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the latest procedures. He has worked and conducted research at multiple clinics around the world, with his primary areas of interest being the application of minimally invasive techniques in the surgical management of spinal tumours and inflammatory processes affecting the spine. He continues to lecture regularly in both Hungarian and English at the Department of Neurosurgery at Semmelweis University.

For him, the greatest professional achievement is seeing a visible improvement in his patients. He firmly believes that good communication and a strong, harmonious relationship between patient and physician are essential parts of the healing process. He always looks for a “Plan B” — surgery is not always the only answer. Spinal and lower back pain has become one of the most common conditions of our time, and in many cases, surgical intervention is mistakenly seen as the only option. In his view, for many patients with degenerative spinal pain, non-surgical approaches can also prove effective in the long term. He believes that — working in partnership with patients and keeping their best interests at the forefront — meaningful improvements in quality of life can be achieved through either surgical or non-surgical pathways, and he is committed to pursuing every available option to make that happen. While the spine cannot simply be replaced, today’s advanced spinal surgery techniques offer a wide range of possibilities for achieving significant improvement in patients’ conditions.
